In art we have been discussing the reading comprehension strategy visualizing. As we read, our mind creates images of the characters and settings in the story using the authors description and our imagination. We created drawings of Marvin, one of the main characters from our 2013 One School One Book selection M A S T E R P I E C E ! We created colorful backgrounds using tissue paper to bring attention to these special drawings. Artworks by students in Mrs. Hart's class.
In Art we have been learning about how some artists tell stories through their work. This picture of two birds is a symbol of friendship from the Pennsylvania Dutch Community. These images are used to communicate values that are important to the families and individuals in their community. Students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade created their own friendship bird drawings to show the importance of friendship at Village Elementary School. Students from Ms. Vay's class working on their friendship bird drawings. Here are some finished friendship birds on display near Mrs. Sears' room.
